Building audit capability instead of dependency

The problem

For years, every internal audit at this specialty powders plant meant a consultant's calendar and a consultant's invoice. Plant leadership wanted to grow that capability from within: a qualified internal auditor who could plan, execute, and report audits to the standard the registrar expected, without waiting on outside availability or outside fees.

What we did

• Delivered a customized internal auditor training program aligned to ISO 9001:2015 clause 9.2 and ISO 19011
• Paired classroom instruction with live practice audits on the plant's own processes and documents
• Covered audit planning, evidence sampling, nonconformity writing, and corrective action follow-up
• The trainee completed a supervised audit during the course; the registrar accepted the report as a valid audit record
• Left behind a reusable audit checklist and schedule template for future cycles
